Shri. Ilaiyaraaja, born on June 2, 1943, is a revered Indian film composer, conductor, arranger, lyricist, and singer, known for his profound influence on the Indian film industry. Often hailed as one of the greatest Indian music composers, Ilaiyaraaja is celebrated for infusing Western musical elements into Indian film music, particularly in the South. With over 8,500 songs composed and music for 1,418 feature films in more than nine languages, he stands unparalleled. Additionally, he has written lyrics for over 1,500 songs and sung more than 1,000 himself. His composition “Rakkamma Kaiya Thattu” from the 1991 film Thalapathi was ranked fourth in the Top 10 Most Popular Songs of All Time by a BBC international poll in 2003.
